This course meets DCs two (2) hours of COVID-19 CE requirement!

This two-hour workshop is focused on the impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on social work practice that still defines and shapes service delivery. Content will cover the following topics:

  • COVID-19 safety
  • What to do if exposed
  • Establishing and maintaining boundaries in different settings
  • Changes that went into effect in response
  • Assessing and balancing rights and protections when the context shifts.

Gisele Ferretto, MSW, LCSW-C has over 35 years of social work experience in both clinical and macro practice areas. Her areas of expertise include: policy, professional ethics, supervision and leadership, confidentiality, social work and field practicum education, child welfare practice, and curriculum development. Ms. Ferretto provides consultation and training for private and public agencies in her areas of expertise. She has served on a variety of committees and boards at the local, state, and national level developing policy and program initiatives.    

   

Currently, Ms. Ferretto is on the Faculty at the University of Maryland School of Social Work (SSW). During her tenure at the SSW, she has held positions in the Office of Field Education, Title IV-E Education for Public Child Welfare Program, Child Welfare Academy, Family Connections Baltimore, and Social Work Community Outreach Service (SWCOS).  Prior to her time at the SSW, she served as an administrator at the Maryland Department of Human Services in the following programs: Child Protective Services, Office of Equal Opportunity, and the Office of Staff Development and Training. Ms. Ferretto began her social work career as a Child Protective Services Worker at Baltimore City Department of Social Services.

Dr. Steven Deck has over 30 years of experience developing and implementing public health, environmental health and safety, risk management, international safety and security, emergency management, and continuity of operation programs in higher education and in the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries. Dr. Deck played a key role in UMB’s COVID-19 response and recovery process. He has held various leadership positions throughout his career and has led or been a key contributor to numerous institutional initiatives. In his current role, he leads the development of a new office of public and occupational health at the university. He holds a doctorate in management, an MBA, and a bachelor’s of science degree in safety and industrial hygiene management. Dr. Deck also holds multiple professional certifications in the safety and health and risk management fields.

Upon the completion of this course, Participants will be able to: 

  • Describe the Social Work Values in the context of COVID-19
  • Identify the national and state resources for professional Social Work Practice
  • Decribe the COVID Safety Practices

The Office of Continuing Professional Education at the University Of Maryland School Of Social Work is authorized by the Board of Social Work Examiners in Maryland to sponsor social work continuing education programs. This workshop qualifies for 2 Category II Continuing Education Units. The Office of Continuing Professional Education is also authorized by the Maryland Board of Psychologists and the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors to sponsor Category A continuing professional education.
