Description

This interactive workshop is intended for anyone who supervises, or wishes to supervise, in a human services environment. The importance of the role of a supervisor in creating a positive work environment will be examined, along with the challenges a supervisor faces from a "realistic" picture of the field. Practical tools along with the opportunity to practice will be provided.

Gillian Berry, PhD, LICSW, LCSW-C, CQSW obtained her Master’s and Doctoral degrees from Birmingham University in England.  She has over 35 years of experience as an educator and practitioner in the field of clinical mental health and human services.  Dr. Berry is currently the Senior Director of the Co-Design Team at Stepped Care Solutions. She also provides clinical consultation, supervision, training and direct services for human services organizations such as child welfare and mental health agencies.  She has been a faculty member at the University of Botswana’s Department of Social Work Southern Africa, and the University of Maryland, School of Social Work.  Her clinical interests have focused on providing short-term solution focused services/therapy from an indigenous perspective. She is author of the empowerment novel The Righteous Sin.

  • Define the key roles of a social work supervisor.
  • Review and reiterate the importance of the supervisor role in the workplace.
  • Offer three tools to promote the supervisory skills of participants.
  • Enable participants to increasingly recognize and incorporate diversity in their practice with supervisee.

Category I Maryland BSWE Requirement

The Office of Continuing Professional Education at the University Of Maryland School Of Social Work is authorized by the Board of Social Work Examiners in Maryland to sponsor social work continuing education programs. This workshop qualifies for {3} Category I Continuing Education Units for {supervision}. The Office of Continuing Professional Education is also authorized by the Maryland Board of Psychologists and the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors to sponsor Category A continuing professional education.

 

ASWB Approved

Course completion requirements: To earn CE credit, social workers must log in at the scheduled time, attend the entire course, and complete the online course evaluation located in your account. After the online course evaluation is completed, you are then able to download your certificate. Partial Credit will not be given for participants who arrive late or leave early.

 

Unversity of Maryland School of Social Work, Office of Continuing Professional Education, provider #1611, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. UMSSW Office of CPE maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 02/11/2021 to 02/11/2024.
