Dawn Shafer, LCSW-C


Dawn Shafer is an LCSW-C and board approved supervisor. She completed her MSW in 2003 from San Diego State University, moving to MD directly after graduation. Dawn spent the first decade of her career at Johns Hopkins Bayview engaging in long-term psychotherapy with adults with co-occurring disorders in an outpatient setting. She then managed the Student Assistance Program at JHU, focusing on short-term counseling and program development related to student wellness. Dawn has been with the University of Maryland School of Social Work since 2014, currently serving as the Associate Dean for Student Affairs. She is also currently a doctoral candidate at UMBC's Language, Literacy and Culture program; her dissertation is entitled "Why Strengths Matter: An Exploration of Community Cultural Wealth Among First-Generation Masters Students".
