Dr. David Camacho earned his PhD in Social Work in Advanced Clinical Practice at Columbia University. He also completed postdoctoral training in Behavioral Geriatrics at Weill Cornell Medicine Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine. He completed Master of Social Work and Master of Science in Gerontology degrees from the University of Southern California. His research centers around the physical and mental health of racial and sexual minority older adults in the United States and Latin America. His research agenda includes gaining a deeper understanding of loneliness, chronic pain and cognitive impairment among diverse older adults. Dr. Camacho seeks to identify and accelerate the implementation of promising interventions into real-world settings. His research is informed by his extensive direct clinical practice as a bilingual and bicultural clinical social worker as well as his personal experiences as a caregiver. Dr. Camacho has held multiple clinical and research appointments across a variety of community settings in Los Angeles and New York. In 2019, he was named an emerging scholar for the National Institute on Aging sponsored Interdisciplinary Aging Research to Address Health Disparities in Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Scientific Training Program. He was also chosen as a scholar for the 2020 NIMHD Health Disparities Research Institute.
