Courtney Jones Carney, DPA, MBA

Dr. Courtney J. Jones Carney currently serves as Program Director and Assistant Professor in the School of Graduate Studies and Assistant Vice President in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She previously served as the inaugural Executive Director of Intercultural Leadership and Engagement and Director of the Intercultural Center, where she led campus-wide initiatives to advance intercultural engagement and develop cultural competence among students, faculty, and staff. Under her leadership, the unit received the 2021 UMB Core Values Award for Excellence. Courtney also directed the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Intercultural Leadership and the Master of Science in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leadership programs, both designed to equip graduates to lead organizational DEI efforts.
A proud alumna of Morgan State University, Courtney earned her Doctor of Public Administration from the University of Baltimore. Her research focuses on microaggressions, workplace climate, intercultural development, and the professionalization of DEI work. She has been recognized with the 2022 Baltimore Business Journal Leaders in Diversity Award and the 2023 University System of Maryland Inclusion, Multiculturalism, and Social Justice Award.
