Description

The goals of supervision are fourfold: (a) to promote supervisee growth and development, (b) to protect the welfare of the client, (c) to monitor supervisee performance and act as a gatekeeper for the profession, and (d) to empower the supervisee to self-supervise and carry out these goals as an independent professional. Supervision is the balance of providing both opportunities and challenges while maintaining a positive and safe professional relationship. This balance requires a firm foundation of appropriate boundaries and information-sharing about the process of supervision. Supervision is a complex process that entails a multitude of roles and responsibilities. Roles are the functional relationships between supervisor and those of the supervisee; responsibilities include the clinical, ethical and legal duties of the supervisor This highly interactive half-day workshop will assist participants in developing the important skills necessary for becoming a competent and effective supervisor. Use of real-life case studies and role-playing provide the participants with opportunities to practice effective strategies to bring about the most positive outcome for the supervisor and the supervisee.

Greg Hunter, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Addiction Counselor, and Certified Instructional Designer with masters degrees in Community Planning and Applied Psychology from the University of Maryland and the University of Baltimore respectively. His professional background includes providing leadership in the human services field as a manager/supervisor for over three decades. He is a professional counselor and trainer with expertise in the addictions field and social work. He has been the full time director of a pre-college program for disadvantaged public high school students since 1987. He is both a college administrator and college professor who specialize in teaching applied human and behavioral sciences courses. He has served as adjunct professor at Sojourner Douglass College, Bowie State University and Baltimore City Community College. He has been a sought after long time trainer for the Maryland State Office of Addiction Services (OETAS), which is a division of the Alcohol and Drug Administration of DHMH.

His primary training areas are Ethics for Human Service Professionals, Conflict and Stress Management, Anger Management for Adolescents and Adults, Motivational Interviewing, Group Psychotherapy, Community Planning, Clinical Supervision, Cultural Competence for the Helping Professional, and Clinical education for Addiction Counselors and Social Workers, and Effective Couples Counseling

As a licensed therapist his primary clinical practice work includes anger management training, alcohol and drug education, and brief intensive therapy for individuals, couples and families.  He provides group psychotherapy for clients who are suffering from mental illness and addiction.

Category I Maryland BSWE Requirement

The Office of Continuing Professional Education at the University Of Maryland School Of Social Work is authorized by the Board of Social Work Examiners in Maryland to sponsor social work continuing education programs. This workshop qualifies for {12} Category I Continuing Education Units for {supervision}. The Office of Continuing Professional Education is also authorized by the Maryland Board of Psychologists and the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors to sponsor Category A continuing professional education.

 

ASWB Approved

Course completion requirements: To earn CE credit, social workers must log in at the scheduled time, attend the entire course, and complete the online course evaluation located in your account. After the online course evaluation is completed, you are then able to download your certificate. Partial Credit will not be given for participants who arrive late or leave early.

 

Unversity of Maryland School of Social Work, Office of Continuing Professional Education, provider #1611, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. UMSSW Office of CPE maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 02/11/2021 to 02/11/2024. Social workers participating in this course receive {12} continuing education {supervision} credits.
